The U.S. military attacked a Syrian air base with 59 Tomahawk missiles on Thursday evening,
in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed at least 70 people. Six people were killed in the U.S airstrike, according to a televised statement by the Syrian's Armed Forces General Command. It was the first direct military action the US has taken against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces. Earlier on Thursday, Donald Trump described the gas attack as “an affront to humanity.”
