'Worst fire in Chilean history’: Russian EMERCOM planes battle blaze in S. America

A Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) firefighting team helps to tackle some of the worst wildfires in Chilean history. The crew carries out operations deploying an Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft capable of carrying up to 42 tons of water. The primary objective of the Russian team is to contain the fires in the wooded area around the town of Portezuelo in the central region of the country. The Russian contingent joins the efforts of the US and Brazil, among other nations, in assisting Chile following Santiago's request for international help.
