Norway Wants To Build World’s First Ship Tunnel

by Jeff DonlanNorway is planning to start construction on the world’s first ship tunnel. It will cut through the Stad Peninsula, connecting the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea. The tunnel will be 150 feet tall, 118 feet wide, and more than a mile long. An estimated 7.5 million tons of rock will need to be removed from the peninsula. The tunnel will allow ships to avoid the dangerous trip around the coast. Construction could take up to four years and cost Norway $272 million.
