Firefighter brings dog back to life with mouth-to-snout resuscitation

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA — A dog nearly died in a house fire, but was promptly brought back from the brink thanks to one firefighter’s mouth-to-snout rescue.
KABC reports that after coming home to find her Santa Monica apartment burning on Tuesday afternoon, Crystal Lamirande, 35, frantically tried to run in to save her pet. Her dog, a Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu mix named Nalu, was trapped inside. But with the smoke too thick, and Lamirande was left to ask firefighters to help save her dog.
As the blaze was contained, firefighter Andrew Klein found the dog in the bedroom. He pulled Nalu out, but the animal had no pulse and wasn’t breathing.
Klein quickly performed CPR on the pup and gave him oxygen through a special mask.
It took 20 minutes, but the lucky dog was eventually revived.
No other pets or humans were injured in the fire, the cause of which is still being investigated, according to KTLA.
Naly was transferred to a local animal hospital for further care, but is now back on his paws, and even swung by the station on Thursday to personally say thanks.
