Netflix's 'Death Note' faces criticism for whitewashing

Netflix released the trailer for the live-action film adaption of popular anime series, ‘Death Note.’ The film stars Nat Wolff as Light Turner who comes across a notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written in the book. The film is also feature the voice of Willem Dafoe and actor Masi Oka, who also produced the movie. ‘Death Note’ was originally going to be made by Warner Bros in 2009, but they decided to give the project to Netflix and director Adam Wingard. Along with titles like Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘Ghost in the Shell', the film gained controversy of whitewashing in Hollywood by having white actors play originally Asian roles. Death Note will be available on Netflix on Aug. 25.
