Report: Trump Team Asked Pentagon About Military Vehicles For Inauguration

The team in charge of President Trump’s inauguration wanted the Pentagon to send them photos of military equipment that could be part of the day’s celebrations, reports the Huffington Post.

The site reportedly obtained copies of internal Pentagon emails through the Freedom of Information Act; one of them, dated December 13, 2016, with Pentagon officials’ names blacked out, reportedly starts off by stating, “[The Presidential Inauguration Committee] is seriously considering adding military vehicles to the Inaugural Parade. Discussion is completely off the record at this point...but the establishing guidance has come from the highest level. I do believe they will be making the request.”
The email goes on to say that “the conversation started as ‘Can you send us some pictures of military vehicles we could add to the parade.’”
The author of the email then expresses reluctance about the request in terms of follow through and staffing requirements.
A previous Huffington Post report from January stated that, “a member of Trump’s transition team floated the idea of including tanks and missile launchers in the inaugural parade.”
The person was also quoted as saying, “They were legit thinking Red Square/North Korea-style parade.”
However, according to the media outlet, officials reportedly rejected the concept due to the regime-like appearance as well as likely damage to local roads.
Instead, Trump’s inauguration had been set to feature an air demonstration consisting of five flyovers--one for each branch of the military--at his request, but this was canceled due to weather, notes The Hill.
Then-President-elect Trump had expressed his intent to show off the strength of U.S. forces, telling the Washington Post, “...we’re going to display our military. That military may come marching down Pennsylvania Avenue. That military may be flying over New York City and Washington, D.C., for parades. I mean, we’re going to be showing our military.”
