Pelosi demands GOP removes King from leadership position over immigration tweet

Democrat house minority leader Nancy Pelosi called on GOP leaders to remove Republican Steve King from his committee chairmanship over controversial tweets about immigration. King praised right-wing Dutch prime minister candidate Geert Wilders, who criticized a lack of cultural assimilation of immigrants in western Europe. “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies," Geert Wilders wrote. Speaker Paul Ryan's office released a statement on Monday disagreeing with the statement, but Pelosi argued the response wasn't substantial. “Steve King’s racist statements must be called out as unacceptable, and the tepid, brush-off response from the Speaker and the GOP leadership is disgraceful,” Pelosi.
