High winds force cancellation of Cape Town Cycle Tour

The Cape Town Cycle Tour was cancelled for the first time in 40 years on Sunday as winds of 100 kilometres per hour hit parts of the route.
A bizarre video filmed at the starting point showed riders struggling to even put their bikes upright on the road.
35-thousand people were due to take part in the The Cape Town Cycle Tour.
“Based on consultation with all the emergency services, the Joint Operations Centre of the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017 regrets to announce that they have had to take the unprecedented step of cancelling this year’s 40th Cycle Tour,” they said in statement.
“This is due to winds in excess of 100km/hour on parts of the route."
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is an annual cycle race, usually on a 109 km (68 mile) long route.
