18-Year-Old Uses Music For Social Change And Lands Huge Pop Sensation

After traveling the world witnessing people struggling in poverty, 18-year-old Maya Dayal decided she was going to find a way to raise money to help people in need.
Inspired by her trip with her mom and sister to the Lollapalooza Music Festival, Maya founded non-profit organization Bands4Change. "I had the idea that music is a way to bring together big groups of people" says Maya Dayal.
Bands4Change began in 2015 to combine Maya' passions for music and helping others. The goal of the concert experience is to raise awareness for local and global issues, motivate people to become activists, and to raise money for the charities.
In January 2017, Kesha performed at the Stroh Center at Bowling Garden University in Bands4Change's fundraising concert. 100% of the profits were donated to organizations of Kesha's choosing: the Humane Society International, the National Eating Disorder Association, and the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network.
Besides starting a non-profit, Maya has also written a book called "Off the Beaten Path: My Roundabout Journey to Humanitarianism."
Maya says her motivation is her mom. "She makes me want to be a better person... My parents have instilled in me that everybody can make a difference... There's always something to do to help better the lives of someone who needs it."
