In the late hours of Tuesday, Hawaii became the first state to challenge President Trump’s revised and newly signed travel ban, reports CNN.
The updated order applies to six of the same predominantly Muslim nations included last time, but excludes Iraq.
It also puts a 120-day time limit on the refusal of refugees to the U.S., notes NBC News.
Those changes failed to appease Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin, who, on Monday, said, “This new executive order is nothing more than Muslim Ban 2.0. Under the pretense of national security, it still targets immigrants and refugees. It leaves the door open for even further restrictions."
In its filing, the state announced an intention to seek a temporary restraining order against the new ban, which is slated to go into effect on March 16.
Both Hawaii and the U.S. Justice Department are requesting an expedited decision on the matter, notes Fox News.
