March 6th’s Google Doodle honors the Komodo National Park, which houses the Komodo dragon. The Komodo National Park in Indonesia, which is celebrating it’s 37th anniversary, was created to protect Komodo dragons and their environment. The dragon’s population is between 3,000 to 5,000, which means they’re a vulnerable species. According to the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, the reptiles can live up to 30 years, grow as long as 10 feet, and can weigh between 160 to 360 pounds. They can sense prey up to two miles away and can run up to 13 mph.
