Shiv Sena nominee Meenakshi Shinde was elected as new mayor of Thane unopposed. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidates withdrew their nominations at the last moment, paving way for Shiv Sena’s Meenakshi Shinde. Earlier in the week, Shiv Sena, which bagged 67 seats in the recently held Thane Municipal Corporation poll, had fielded Meenakshi Shinde for the post of mayor.
