On Thursday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz slammed Kellyanne Conway for retweeting a false report regarding Tuesday’s standing ovation for Navy SEAL's widow Carryn Owens.
The link shared by Conway alleged that Wasserman Schultz and Rep. Keith Ellison remained seated during the tribute.
With it, Conway wrote, “Hope this is not true. It was a moment of unity and deserved recognition.”
Wasserman Schultz was shown the tweet during an appearance on CNN’s ‘OutFront’ and was asked if she’s received an apology from Conway.
She responded, “Of course she hasn't apologized, because that's their M.O. They generate and perpetuate fake news. They don't tell the truth. They lie, they distort, they intentionally put out false information so that they can try to control the news cycle...I don't need an apology, I need them to start telling the truth."
Shortly after the story of the seated Democrats began to circulate, fact-checking website Snopes looked into its validity.
It determined that the images showing Wasserman Schultz and Ellison in their seats, the basis of the claims, were taken about a half an hour before the standing ovation occurred.
Video footage of them rising during the tribute was also found.
Nonetheless, the false report was presented as fact by a number of media outlets and politicians.
