A heartwarming video has emerged from the US of a cat being rescued after he was chased up a tree by a dog.

The footage, filmed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 24, shows the good samaritan using climbing equipment to reach to cat, and bring him safely back down to earth.

The filmer later wrote online: "He turned out to be a delightfully friendly and cooperative boy, so his rescue was easy.

"Since no one knew him and he had no collar or microchip, I named him Coal because of his coal black fur."
