It’s for a good cause, we promise. Two-thirds of the world’s beaches are retreating, driven by companies mining sand to use in construction. So New Zealand beer company DB Breweries came up with the idea to crush their bottles as a substitute for beach sand. A bottle is inserted into a machine that pulverizes the bottle into 200 grams of sand. The sand can then be used in construction, roading, and even golf bunkers. DB Breweries plans to create many tons of sand in 2017.
