Mount Etna Volcano Rocked by Strong Eruptions

Italy’s Mount Etna volcano became active on January 23 and Strombolian or episodic explosions have rocked its southeast crater. Geologist Boris Behncke captured this video of lava fountains and explosions during the night of Monday, February 27.According to reports, the eruptions happened at the volcano’s highest point. The eruptions didn’t pose danger to nearby settlements but could be seen from Catania and Taormina. Fontarossa airport remained open, but an orange airplane alert was issued.
