On Thursday, James O’Keefe released an immense amount of audio that was allegedly recorded at CNN’s Atlanta location in 2009.
On Thursday, James O’Keefe, a very vocal and often controversial conservative activist, released an immense amount of audio that was allegedly secretly recorded at CNN’s Atlanta location in 2009.
O’Keefe says the content posted to his Project Veritas website is about 100 hours’ worth and proves CNN's "misrepresentation of polling data" in pursuit of its anti-Republican agenda.
Prior to making the recordings public, he gave a warning of his intention to do so.
During a Wednesday phone interview with CNN, O’Keefe said he and his followers, “…think our media needs to be held to account, and CNN is kind of the leader of that.”
According to CNN, O’Keefe has a reputation for using manipulative and misleading editing tactics.
Notably, his Thursday audio dump is said to consist entirely of raw recordings.
Among the highlights is an alleged statement by CNN’s Richard Griffiths.
The now vice president of the network allegedly says of journalism at large, “Aid the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. To a degree, right? Is that not part of the traditional role of a journalist? It's actually one of the things I can be most proud of as a journalist."
In an assessment of the recordings, the Washington Post’s Callum Borchers commented, "Maybe there is a bombshell yet to come. Maybe. But the debut of James O'Keefe's 'CNN Leaks' Thursday morning can only be described as underwhelming."
