Vice Admiral Robert Harward reportedly submitted his decision to turn down the national security adviser job vacated by Michael Flynn after watching President Trump’s press conference Thursday; the former Navy Seal is said to have had other reservations about the position as well.

President Trump’s sprawling press conference on Thursday may have sealed Vice Admiral Robert Harward’s decision to turn down the national security adviser job vacated by Michael Flynn.
On Friday, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, citing an unnamed source, said that “After watching the president's press conference, he decided...to stick with his decision to decline the offer.”
The Huffington Post also reported, based on an insider account, that “Harward took notice of Trump’s White House news conference on Thursday.”
His main concerns are said to have been the amount of autonomy he would have and whether or not he would be able to undo some of the recent changes to the agency’s organizational structure.
After declining the offer, Harward told the Associated Press, “It's purely a personal issue.  I'm in a unique position finally after being in the military for 40 years to enjoy some personal time.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper offered a different perspective, tweeting on Thursday, “A friend of Harward's says he was reluctant to take NSA job bc the WH seems so chaotic..."
