Tom Brady, Michael Jordan and other players to skip White House visits

At least two players from the New England Patriots — Devin McCourty and Martellus Bennett — are planning on skipping the team's visit to the White House this year after defeating the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Here are some other notable names from past championship teams in other sports who haven't attended traditional White House visits. Tom Brady (2015) - According to the Patriots, Brady said that he had a "family commitment." However, he was actually at Gillette Stadium getting some stretching in. Michael Jordan (1991) - MJ chose to spend time with family instead of attending the Bulls' White House trip to visit George H.W. Bush. Larry Bird (1984) - "If the president wants to see me, he knows where to find me," Bird said was his reason for skipping the Celtics' trip. Matt Birk (2013) - The ex-Baltimore Ravens center skipped his team's trip due to conflicting views with President Obama on abortion. James Harrison (2006, 2009) - The longtime Steelers' reasoning behind not attending both visits is because he didn't feel the need to go. Harrison also said that the president "would have invited Arizona" had they won instead in 2009.
