Young Bat Bares Its Teeth During Feeding Time
  • 7 years ago

A young bat showed off its pearly white teeth while enjoying a feed on Wednesday, February 8, at an animal rescue shelter for flying foxes in Queensland.“Baby flying-foxes are born with tiny, re-curved milk teeth which help the baby latch on to and stay attached to one of mum’s two nipples, one of which is located deep in each wing-pit,” carer Denise Wade told Storyful.
“At around 5 weeks of age, milk teeth are replaced by a permanent set of 34 teeth which are fairly wide set in the jaw, but the astounding thing is the size of flying-fox canines which at first glance appear a tad excessive for a diet rich in pollen and nectar.” Credit: Denise Wade via Storyful
