Republican senators just silenced Democrat Elizabeth Warren
  • 7 years ago
Republican senators voted to ban Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren from speaking on the floor about attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions. Warren condemned his nomination for attorney general after reading a letter written in 1986 by Coretta Scott King, the widow of Martin Luther King Jr. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell retaliated by finding her in violation of Senate Rule XIX. "No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator," the rule reads. The Senate voted to bar Warren from speaking about Sessions in a 49-to-43 vote.
