Former French president goes to trial over illegal campaign funding

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will stand trial over illegal campaign funding over allegations that his party falsified $20 million. Sarkozy denies having knowledge about the overspending during the 2012 campaign and will appeal the order. The leader lost the 2012 race and failed his bid this year in in the upcoming presidential election. Several of the campaign's members already admitted knowledge of the misuse of financing and face charges.
