First They Killed My Father is an upcoming American biographical historical thriller film directed by Angelina Jolie and written by Jolie and Loung Ung, based on Ung's memoir of same name. It will be released on Netflix.
On July 23, 2015, it was announced that Angelina Jolie would next direct a film adaptation of the memoir First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung for Netflix, which Jolie and Ung wrote the script. Jolie would also produce the film along with Rithy Panh, while Jolie's son Maddox Jolie-Pitt would also be involved in the production.
Principal photography on the film began in early February 2016 in Battambang, Cambodia. Filming was previously scheduled to begin in early November 2015 in Siem Reap. Filming will also be done in Phnom Penh.
The movie is based on the Ung's memoir "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers" is a 2000 non-fiction book written by Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and survivor of the Pol Pot regime. It is a personal account of her experiences during the Khmer Rouge years.

Bolstered by the shocking bravery of one brother, the vision of the others—and sustained by her sister's gentle kindness amid brutality—Loung forged on to create for herself a courageous new life.
