Many of President Donald Trump’s core supporters had a simple message on Sunday for the fiercest opponents of his immigration ban. Calm down.
The relaxed reaction among the kind of voters who drove Trump’s historic upset victory – the working- and middle-class residents of the Midwest and the South – stands in stark contrast to the uproar that has gripped major cities on both coasts.
The US president’s controversial executive order on immigration has sparked legal chaos not seen in recent times.

“Public opinion is almost unanimous: this was amateur hour. Trump is losing political capital while not directly addressing a more urgent law enforcement concern, that of homegrown violent extremists in the US who plot their attacks without any overseas connections at all.”
“After all, the perpetrators of the past attacks in Orlando, San Bernardino and Boston were Americans or had been living here and who hailed from countries not even on Trump’s list.”
“Meanwhile, there is growing unease, if not anger, in Congress, even among Republicans. They feel that they are forced to defend an immigration policy that was clearly not thought through.”
“Right now, it is not clear whether they will help Trump clean up the mess or whether they will leave him to his own devices. One thing is certain: Trump’s 100-day grace period seems already over.”
