Festivities in Bangkok were cancelled this year out of respect for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died in October.

According to a 2012 survey from the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, some 9.3 million Thai people are ethnic Chinese, accounting for roughly 11 percent of the population.
