Holocaust survivors mark 72 years since liberation of Auschwitz camp

On Friday, exactly 72 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, dozens of survivors paid homage to those killed at what is today a memorial site and museum. The Auschwitz survivors wore striped scarves as they walked beneath the infamous, harrowing gate "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Will Set You Free) until they reached the execution wall, where they lit candles, placed flowers and prayed. Janina Male, a Polish survivor whose parents were killed at the execution wall As January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorative events were also being held across Europe and Israel.
