Columbia University investigates school's history to slave trade

Columbia University's faculty and students are exploring the school's history to the slave trade dating as far back as 18th century. “Of the ten men who served as presidents of King’s and Columbia between 1754 and the end of the Civil War, at least half owned slaves at one point in their lives.” history professor Eric Foner cited in the New York Times. The report revealed that a math professor in the 1760s asked students to calculate profits of the slave trade. Last year, Georgetown University also uncovered similar findings, where the university profited from the sale of 272 slaves in 1838.
