Donald Trump has promised to give a struggling supporter from rural Illinois $10,000.
On January 19, the Washington Post provided an account of the unlikely meeting which was prompted by Trump reading a profile the media outlet had published about Shane Bouvet just the day before.
The earlier piece revealed that the 24-year-old single father and part-time FedEx worker began campaigning for Trump by making cold calls and posting on Facebook.
He eventually worked on Trump’s social media team in Illinois and, after the businessman’s win, was invited to the Great American Inaugural Ball.
He couldn't afford proper attire for the event so his friend surprised him with a new suit and shoes, reports the State Journal-Register.
As Bouvet told the Herald & Review, he was contacted about meeting Trump on Thursday morning, and when he entered a tent later that night, he saw Donald and Melania Trump.
They talked and took photos, and before Bouvet left, he heard Trump tell an aide to “Send him a check for $10,000.”
Bouvet has since been quoted as saying, “(Trump) changed my life forever.”
He says he plans to spend the money on chemotherapy for his father.
