China: 'Important progress' made in relationship with US under President Obama

China noted that "important progress" has been made in the country's relationship with the U.S. during President Barack Obama's term. "Important progress has been made by the two countries. This has shown that China-U.S. relations have strategic and overarching significance and we have more common interests than differences," Hua said during a briefing. Hua didn't mention the recent dispute regarding President-elect Donald Trump's relationship with Taiwan. The U.S. maintains a relationship with Taiwan and provides the island with arms against China. China called the U.S. to bar Taiwanese officials from attending Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday.
