Obama commutes most of Chelsea Manning's sentence, will be released in May

In one of his final acts in the White House, President Barack Obama has commuted most of Chelsea Manning's remaining sentence, enabling her to be released in May. Manning is currently being held in a male military prison, despite being an open transgender woman. She is serving a 35-year sentence for her role in a leak of military and government information in 2010. President Obama has been mulling the decision over the past few days, even putting Manning on the short list for commutation.
