School employee fired for correcting student’s misspelled tweet

FREDERICK, MARYLAND — A social media manager for a Maryland school district was recently fired for being sassy on Twitter — the victim of higher-ups with sticks up their you-know-wheres.
The Frederick News Post reports that the incident began after a student sent a tweet to Frederick County Public Schools account, asking for school to be cancelled the next day, but misspelling the word tomorrow as ‘tammarow’.
Katie Nash, who manages the school’s Twitter account, replied in jest, asking how the student would learn how to spell the word correctly if school closed.
The spectacular burn lit up the Twitterverse, with netizens very amused by the quip.
The student didn’t take it personally, and even continued with the harmless banter. Unfortunately, the uptight members of the school board did. They called Nash to a meeting and promptly fired her for what they deemed to be inappropriate tweets.
The firing led to a social media uproar, with Twitter users coming to Nash’s defense, and students clamoring to get her back.
Nash admitted that she didn’t think she was going to be fired, instead expecting the school to give her counseling or suggestions on how to do her job. Still, she claims she she understands where the school is coming from.
