Donald Trump Willing To Lift Sanctions ‘If Russia Is Really Helping Us’

During a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump suggested that he would be willing to lift the sanctions President Obama placed on Russia if the country was “really helping us” and “doing some really great things.”

Donald Trump has indicated that he would not be opposed to removing the sanctions President Obama has placed on Russia.
During an interview with the Wall Street Journal published Friday, he said, “If you get along and if Russia is really helping us, why would anybody have sanctions if somebody's doing some really great things?”
However, Trump did say that after he takes office, he would likely keep them, in his words, “at least for a period of time.”
Late last year, President Obama announced various measures his administration had decided to take against Russia in response to the alleged intervention in the U.S. election.
Obama stated, “...I have ordered a number of actions in response to the Russian government’s aggressive harassment of U.S. officials and cyber operations aimed at the U.S. election.”
He also said that their subversive, election-related activities “could only have been directed by the highest levels of the Russian government.”
Despite these allegations, Trump suggested he would be open to starting a dialogue with the Russians, telling the Journal, “I understand that they would like to meet, and that's absolutely fine with me.”
