George Clooney has called the fact that Donald Trump will be the next U.S. president “a little bit unlucky.”
The actor, who is a Democrat, made the comment at an event for his forthcoming documentary called 'The White Helmets' which features the Syrian Civil Defense.
The Associated Press quotes him as saying about Trump, “We have to hope that he can do a decent job, because when the president of the United States fails, really terrible things happen.”
Clooney also reportedly listed major past presidential figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John F. Kennedy before saying, “I think we’re going to be a little unlucky now. I can only hope for the best.”
PEOPLE notes that at the same event, the actor called the president-elect out for tweeting that Meryl Streep, in Trump's words, is “one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood.”
According to the magazine, Clooney sarcastically quipped, “I’ve always said that about Meryl. She’s maybe the most overrated actress of all-time.”
Referring to the president-elect, he then posed the question, “Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?”
