Weakened Immune Systems on the Rise

A new study released Friday reveals that 3 percent of people surveyed in the U.S. have a suppressed, or weakened, immune system. The researchers concluded that the numbers are rising due to medical advances allowing immunosuppressed patients to live longer. Researchers say the findings also provide understanding into the number of Americans who have immunity-suppressing conditions such as AIDS or take drugs that treat autoimmune disorders by weakening the immune system.
