Chinese Media Warns ‘Revenge’ If Trump Doesn’t Uphold One-China Policy

On January 8, the Global Times, a Chinese state-run media outlet, issued a report warning President-elect Donald Trump that there will likely be “revenge” if he does not uphold the one-China policy.

China has threatened consequences in the form of "revenge" if Donald Trump does not uphold the one-China policy which classifies Taiwan as a province, not a sovereign nation.
The latest warning followed news that Taiwan’s leader had been in Houston on January 8.
She reportedly met with top Texas officials including Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz, who has been quoted as saying, in part, “I was honored to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan today.  We discussed our mutual opportunity to upgrade the stature of our bilateral relations in a wide-ranging discussion....”
The same day, China’s state run media outlet, the Global Times, issued an article titled, “One-China policy not a capricious request.”
The piece states, “Trump is yet to be inaugurated, and there is no need for Beijing to sacrifice bilateral ties for the sake of Taiwan.”
However, it goes on to warn that “if Trump reneges on the one-China policy after taking office, the Chinese people will demand the government to take revenge. There is no room for bargaining.”
The relationship between China and Trump first became strained when the president-elect broke the long-standing protocols and engaged in a telephone call with President Tsai on December 2, notes the Washington Post.
