A Democratic congressman is warning that Donald Trump supporters will likely have “buyer’s remorse.”
During a Monday appearance on CNN, Representative Hakeem Jeffries from New York was asked about his party’s ability to communicate with the public given Republicans’ recent election victories.
He responded by saying, “We’ve been dealing with a fog of misinformation that’s been coming from Republicans in Washington for the last six years. And we’ve got to do a better job in dealing with that reality, but particularly because they now have an opportunity to govern, we have a chance to clearly communicate to the American people what’s at stake.”
Jeffries later stated, “...There will be buyer’s remorse because the Republicans in Washington in all likelihood are going to overreach.”
He then added, “They did not win a majority of Americans who came to the polls and voted for a presidential candidate. Donald Trump lost the popular vote...We can’t over-correct in this country.”
About a month ago, Jeffries claimed a spot as one of the leaders who will oversee the development of the Democrats’ official party platform.
Jeffries, along with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, have been outspoken about Trump’s potential policies which could hurt the African-American community like voting restrictions and public school funding.
