Thundersnow Rumbles Through Bismarck During Blizzard

A blizzard swept through Bismarck, North Dakota, on Christmas, and the storm brought with it “thundersnow” on Sunday, December 25.Robert Reeves, who took this video, and his family heard the first rumble of thunder before heading to the window. There was a second flash of lightning, but it was the third he caught on camera. He said his wife’s weather app estimated the lightning was two miles away. Reeves’ son can be heard saying “oh my gosh” as the lightning flashes in the video.
The storm dumped at least a foot of snow on the Bismarck area, according to the National Weather Service, and nearly two feet fell further north in Minot. The storm closed highways and knocked out power throughout the region. The NWS warned on Thursday that drifting snow could still cause hazardous travel conditions.
