Berlin truck attack cut short due to automatic brakes

The truck which rammed into a crowded Christmas Market in Berlin could have killed more people, according to German media. The death toll in the market attack, which was 12, could have been even higher if the vehicle did not have automatic brakes, Der Spiegel reported. The onboard computer in the truck, hijacked by Tunisian national Anis Amri, hit the automatic brakes, preventing further damage. Previous reports said that Lukasz Urban, the Polish truck driver, attempted to fight off Amri during the attack. It was later confirmed that Urban was shot and killed by Amri before the attack.
