ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday received the new chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar on Friday in his first such visit, Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar was named the head of ISI in place of Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar earlier this month.

Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar was appointed as President of the National Defence University Islamabad.

In the meeting in Prime Minister House here, the DG ISI discussed the national security issues with the prime minister.

Prime Minister Sharif congratulated Lt. Gen. Mukhtiar on his new responsibility and hoped he will perform it with the same zeal and dedication.

Gen Mukhtar had been serving as corps commander of Karachi earlier.
