A man from Dryden, New York who allegedly gunned down a UPS driver said he believes the person he fatally shot was Donald Trump.
A man from Dryden, New York who allegedly gunned down a UPS driver said he believes the person he fatally shot was Donald Trump, reports USA Today.
38-year-old Justin Barkley appeared in court on Monday to offer a plea in connection to the December 8 incident, which reportedly occurred in the parking lot of an Ithaca Walmart.
The victim, William Schumacher, was on his night shift and had stopped at the store at roughly 1 a.m. to get something to eat.
After allegedly shooting Schumacher, Barkley is said to have fled the scene, running over the victim with his car as he did so.
Police followed the alleged assailant to his home, and, after an 8-hour standoff, took him into custody.
According to the Ithaca Voice, at the plea hearing, Barkley said, “I shot and killed Donald Trump purposely, intentionally and very proudly."
When asked if it was possible that he had fatally wounded someone else, he replied, “I hope not.”
Though Barkley attempted to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder, the judge declined to accept, instead ordering the suspect to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Barkley is scheduled to return to court on January 6.
