Popular cholesterol medications may protect against Alzheimer’s

Doctors and researchers still don't know what exactly causes Alzheimer's but one theory now suggests that it may be linked with high cholesterol. Researchers tested 400,000 older adults that take cholesterol medication, most of whom were in their mid-70s, over a five-year span and found that people who regularly took the medication were less likely to develop Alzheimer's. The study showed women were at a 15% lower risk and men were at at 12% lower risk. Ethnicities and the type of medication also effected the reduction of risk. The four most commonly used cholesterol medicines from the study were Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor and Pravachol.
