Aleppo evacuation deal falls through, shelling resumes

The evacuation deal of east Aleppo which was announced by the United Nations on Tuesday has fallen through. Artillery shelling resumed early Wednesday on besieged eastern neighborhoods, with hundreds of civilians trapped. Under a deal brokered by Russia, pro-government fighters to evacuate the rebel-held territory and civilians were to move to government-held areas. Pro-government forces are reportedly refusing to let anyone leave the eastern part of the city until rebel forces leave Fouaa and Kfarya. The Russian Defense Ministry blamed rebels for the deadlock, saying they “resumed the hostilities."
