Why Was Akshay Kumar Signed Up For 'Gabbar Is Back'?

After working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his production venture Rowdy Rathore, Akshay Kumar will be teaming up with the filmmaker once more in Gabbar Is Back, but Bhansali claims that it was not the success of Rowdy Rathore that made him sign up Akki for this film. When asked if Bhansali chose Akshay for the role as he had killed it in Rowdy Rathore, the filmmaker said that the decision to cast Akshay in Gabbar Is Back had nothing to do with the success of Rowdy Rathore. Bhansali clarified that they wanted an actor with a clean and powerful image, which is what made them narrow down on Akki for the role as he would look convincing as a vigilante out to punish the corrupt. Gabbar Is Back is the Bollywood remake of South flick Ramanna and the film, which also stars Shruti Haasan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in a special appearance, is slated to release this weekend.
