Former House Speaker John Boehner says he has no regrets about leaving Congress and is relieved that he was not mixed up in the 2016 election.
In an interview with WCPO, Boehner said, “Every day I'd watch it and was like, 'Thank God I'm not in the middle of this.’" He further told the media outlet, "It was the most bizarre political year that we've seen in 100 years."
Boehner also indicated he is comfortable with his October 2015 decision to leave the legislative branch behind, noting, “There's nothing I would change about when I left or how I left."
Though he no longer holds a job in politics, he still weighs in on political matters.
During a recent speech given in Cleveland, Boehner had supportive words about Donald Trump and what his presidency may hold, reports USA Today.
He described the president-elect as, “…kind of a Democrat…kind of a Republican,” and noted, “I think there’s an opportunity in this new political order to do big things.”
