ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं ।
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
गायत्र्येव परो विष्णुर्गात्र्येव परः शिवः ।
गायत्र्येव परो ब्रह्मा गायत्र्येव त्रयी ततः ॥
गायत्री वेदजननी गायत्री ब्राह्मणप्रसूः ।
गायत्री वेदजननी गायत्री लोकपावनी ।
गायत्री वेदजननी गायत्री पापनाशिनी ।
गायत्री तु परं तत्त्वं गायत्री परमा गतिः ।
ॐकारस्तु परं ब्रह्म गायत्री स्यात्तदक्षरम् ।
न गायत्र्याः परो मन्त्रः सा सर्वश्रुतिमध्यगा ।

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः The Gayatri Mantra has been chronicled in the Rig Veda, which was written in Sanskrit about 2500 to 3500 years ago, and the mantra may have been chanted for many centuries before that.

For ages, this beautiful prayer has seemed mysterious to the Western mind and was out of reach even for most Hindus. It was a well guarded secret, withheld from women and from those outside the Hindu Brahmin community.

Today, it is chanted, meditated to, and sung around the world with reverence and love. It is often compared to The Lord’s Prayer in significance and impact.
