With the new 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' film on the way, we combed through hours of Star Wars footage across film, animated series' and video games to find the best Star Wars lightsaber duels throughout the saga, and we've formulated a list of 6. After this goosebump inducing moment the pair engage in combat fueled with emotions. #5 01:02 - Satele Shan and Kao Cen Darach vs Lord Vindican and Darth Malgus - Star Wars: The Old Republic - The fifth best lightsaber duel in the history of Stars Wars is unfortunately no longer canon, and that is the duel between Darth Malgius and Lord Vindican against the jedi master Kao Cen Darach and his apprentice Satele Shen. The battle was designed as a trailer to the multiplayer game Star Wars: The Old Republic and features a 2 on 2 match between the Jedi and Sith. #4 02:03 - Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader - Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Both Skywalker’s fight with a swirling mixture emotions. Luke has both hatred and sympathy for Vader, and attempts to sway him back to the lightside of the force, while Vader toys with Luke’s emotions to draw him towards the darkside. Luke disarms Vader but resists the temptation to the darkside, even under the looming threat of Darth Sidious. And then, in perhaps one of the most gratifying moments of the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader sacrifices himself to save his son. #3 02:54 - Ahsoka Tano vs Darth Vader - Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Finale (Twilight of the Apprentice) - In the second season of Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka and Vader duel in an ancient Sith temple. The battle masterfully mixes the flashy acrobatics of the prequel trilogy with Vader’s slow lumbering strikes. During the battle Ahsoka damages Vader’s mask, and confirms her fears that her master has fallen to the darkside. As the temple collapses Ahsoka refuses to abandon Anakin once more, and he forces himself to fight her to the death. #2 04:02 - Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul - Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi’s battle against Darth Maul is considered to be the one redeeming moment in the otherwise lackluster Phantom Menace. This battle brought about the introduction of double sided lightsabers, and with it a door to new potential for lightsaber battles.
