SOUTH DEVON, UNITED KINGDOM — An 89-year-old British man in is desperately searching for a cure for boredom. To spice up his life, he placed an ad in the local paper, hoping someone out there will give him something to do.

A former soldier of the Airborne forces who served in Palestine after World War 2, Joe Bartley is forced to rely on his modest pension to afford rent and life in general. Long retired and unable to work full-time, he’s offering to put in up to 20 hours of work per week for odd jobs.

His ad reads: “WORK WANTED. Senior citizen 89 seeks employment in Paignton area. 20hrs+ per week. Still able to clean, light gardening, DIY and anything. I have references. Old soldier, airborne forces. Save me from dying of boredom!”

To get out of the house and really feel like a contributing member of society, the long-retired vet has made it clear he’s willing to get his hands dirty. Nearly nine decades into his life, old Joe Bartley wants the world to know, he’s not dead yet.
