Donald Trump wants to make college more affordable for the middle-class

Donald Trump seeks to make it easier for the middle-class to afford the nation's top universities. A member of Trump’s transition team, Republican Rep. Tom Reed, is pushing for legislation that will take away wealthy colleges' tax-exempt status if they do not spend more of their endowment gains on middle-class families. Universities would be required to be transparent with information about salaries and fringe benefits as well as keep tuition increases below the inflation rate. Schools that don’t cut costs would be penalized by the federal government by getting their money transferred to colleges that do meet the mandate.
