Thousands of protesters have hit the streets of Rome, Italy to protest against constitutional reforms.

The protesters gathered in the capital yesterday at the Piazza della Repubblica, carrying banners condemning the proposed reforms of prime minister Matteo Renzi.

If approved, the reforms put forward by the government would reduce the size and rights of the Senate and take back some of the powers held by Italy's regional governments.

Banners held by the demonstrators read "No" and "Renzi get out" while the protesters were met by rows of riot police
