Since it’s opening roughly 2 weeks ago, a skating rink in Japan's Space World theme park has been a popular attraction.
However, in recent days, controversy erupted over the park's decision to freeze 5,000 dead fish into the ice, reports the BBC.
Many enraged citizens took to social media, with one calling the move, “disrespectful of life" and another characterizing it as, “Japan’s shame."
On Monday, Toshimi Takeda, Space World’s manager, told CNN, “We were shocked to hear the reaction...We are sorry for the project and decided to close the rink on that night."
It has also been announced that the fish were said to be dead when they were purchased, notes The Telegraph.
There are plans to hold a service for the dead creatures and then use their carcasses as fertilizer.
